Steppa Irie started as a promoter for post-punk shows for the short-lived collective called “Pickpocket”. After the split he became more and more interested in dub and reggae and started to collect vinyl records like a maniac, got his first pair of turntables and got into the selector business. After a while he founded Soul Vibration together with Massaker Mittuu and B-Audio. He started as a guest selector at the “famous” irie land clubbing @ ppc. In the meantime he has become one of the resident selectors and organizing forces of the clubbing alongside Thalaman of Ithiopia Sound. Both were invited to juggle records at the mighty Spring4 electronic music festival this year. Steppa Irie’s set is always a mixture of several reggae styles from roots to rub-a-dub and dancehall and of course dubwise style. “To me a varied set is one of the most important things because I’ll get sick immediately playing only slack dancehall tunes over and over again. Get into roots and culture and keep on dubbing!” he once said. Nuff said.
